Rick Santorum Sings Sweet Home Alabama

Rick Santorum Sings Sweet Home Alabama
United States Flag high on the flagpole

This U.S. flag is flying proudly in the breeze.

Well, not really, at least not that we’ve heard…but it wouldn’t surprise us at all after the primary voters today in both Alabama and Mississippi chose Rick Santorum over Newt, Mitt and Ron.

Yes, it’s true.  In the race for the 2012 Presidential election, Rick Santorum made up some ground on Mitt Romney and put some distance between he and Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul.

Now, to be fair, these were not blowout type victories, but they were victories nonetheless.

In Mississippi, Santorum got 33% of the vote, Gingrich 31%, Romney 30% and Ron Paul came in fourth with 4%.

In Alabama Santorum received 35%, Gingrich 29%, Romney 29% and Paul 5%.

These were the numbers with 99% of the precincts reporting in both states.

Congratulations to Rick Santorum for his First Place finishes.  Congratulations to Newt Gingrich for finishing in second in both states.  Congratulations to Ron Paul for continuing the fight and not giving up.  And congratulations to Mitt for continuing to lead in the delegate race.  I’ll say a little more about this a little later in this note.

This is shaping up to be quite a race to be America’s Next President!

Hawaii and American Samoa both held their caucuses tonight, but neither will announce the numbers until Wednesday morning because of the time difference between the islands and the mainland.

During Santorums victory speech, he mentioned the fact that Romney is outspending everyone else in advertising dollars by a wide margin.   And that statement is true.  Early in the race for the Republican nomination Romney was able to overcome fairly large deficits in the polls with lots and lots negative ads and money.

It appears that the money factor and the negative ads are starting to wear thin with the voters.  Romney again far outspent the others in both Alabama and Mississippi, but it just didn’t work in either state.

The race for the White House in 2012 has begun

The race for the White House in 2012 has begun

Although, it does appear that the Romney camp was only shooting for one-third of the vote.  Why only a third?  To maintain their delegate lead, according to Eric Fehrnstrom, a senior Romney adviser.  This is like Ali’s rope-a-dope, or the prevent defense in football.  Just do enough to win.   Why do just enough to win?  There are several possibilities, but the Romney camp has said it is a long race and they don’t need to win the states.  They just need to win “enough” delegates to win the nomination.  It’s this kind of garbage, game playing that some of the Republican base is sick and tired of.   It’s very hard to “rally” behind someone who wants to do just enough to win.

It’s really no wonder it is looking more and more like the 2012 Republican convention will be a brokered convention to get a nominee.  Is this a good or bad thing?  Only time will tell.  But I will say this one more time…It’s very hard to get excited for and rabidly support someone whose goal is to do “just enough to win enough delegates to win the nomination.”   Screw that!  Act like you Want to win!  The voters are telling you, Mitt Romney, they want you to start acting like Rick Santorum.  Get some fire in your belly.

My question for Mitt is:

“Where the hell is the killer instinct that made you so much money with Bain Capital?”  There is no way you were successful in that business acting the way you are now… so stop it.  Or continue being this way and watch the convention become a brokered one.

We don’t need another person looking to “get by” or “get along with both sides.”  We are looking for someone who is not afraid to say what needs to be said, in a NON-Politically Correct way.  It still needs to be said in a civil way, but screw the political correctness.  Go for the jugular.  Be a winner.  That is exactly what Rick Santorum has been acting like, and he is now winning states on a regular basis.

Let us know what you think of the styles of the candidates by leaving a comment below and we’ll see you again soon,

Stan
