Romney’s Super-Pac Issues Misleading Ads in Wisconson

The Super-Pac “Restore Our Future” has begun airing a new ad in Wisconson in denigration of Rick Santorum, not in support of anything Mitt Romney has done.   The ad in question shows Rick Santorum speaking from behind a microphone, saying “I don’t care what the unemployment rate is going to be.”  On the surface it sounds pretty bad and here is the ad so you can hear it for yourself.

Now, the real problem with the ad is that these words are taken completely out of context and do NOT mean what the ad leads you to believe.  The second part of the statement in question is “My campaign doesn’t hinge on unemployment rates and growth rates. There’s something more foundational that’s going on here.”

See what I mean…Romney’s super-pac didn’t exactly lie, but they’re a long way from telling the truth!

When interviewed by Fox News, Santorum stated, “What I said was that the unemployment rate — it didn’t matter what it was between now and election time, because the fundamental issue that’s causing the unemployment, that’s causing the economic distress in our country, is the fact that the government is imposing its will and mandating things on people and creating a yoke on top of businesses that makes it hard to employ,”.

From my point of view, this is one of the biggest things wrong with politics in America today.  Soundbites taken out of context, misleading statements in ads and out and out lies.  In the case of Romney’s super-pac, telling us what’s wrong with the other candidates, rather than telling us what’s right with their candidate.  For the most part, Ron Paul and Newt Gingrich have run campaigns highlighting their ideas and plans, not putting down the others.  Rick Santorum has been on the fence, putting down Romney when it seemed to fit, but almost always promoting his ideas and plans.  But, by spending more money on negative ads, saying a few rather empty “promises” and not focusing on his own ideas and plans, Romney has built a big delegate lead in the 2012 race for the White House.  It’s a tried and true method…it’s the exact method Obama used to get in office, and I imagine it will be used for time immemorial.  Spend more money and don’t tell the voters the truth, works nearly every time.  As Mark Twain said, “A lie will make it half way around the world before the truth gets it’s shoes on.”

I really do wish the voters would stop rewarding politicians for tearing others down and start rewarding them for building society up via their own ideas and plans!  Tell me what You Stand For, what Your ideas are, what Your plans are, What is it that makes YOU tick…then I’ll decide whether or not I want to vote for You.
